Requirements & Qualifications

• Main Purpose Organize and carry out anaesthetic medical activities، according to MSF policies، protocols and universal hygiene standards and in collaboration with the surgeon and other medical staff، and increase the knowledge and practical skills of the anaesthetic staff through on the job training and knowledge transfer in order to ensure the quality of care provided to patients Accountabilities Carry out pre-operative consultations evaluating the risks of operating in collaboration with the surgeon، providing the patient with appropriate information and deciding the type of anesthetics to be used، in order to ensure the best conditions prior to the surgery

OT started recently in 2020 currently، OBGYN activities launched in April 2026، as well، Outreach support to health facilities in Ghafrah and Dweib started in June 2026

Carry-out all anesthesia related activities during surgery to ensure safe، adequate anesthesia.

Ensure transfer of patients to the recovery room، and full recovery of the patient’s consciousness and setting analgesic protocol Advise on Postoperative care in both Intensive Care Unit and wards with the surgeon، including fluid management، oxygenation monitoring and airway care and chest physiotherapy and mobilization، with special focus on patient’s pain relief during the recovering process

Implement and supervise hygiene rules، procedures and MSF protocols in OT/recovery، anesthesia material (decontamination، sterilization، storage conditions، etc.) to ensure the safety and protection of patients and staff

Supervise the OT pharmacy (drugs orders، inventories، expired drugs) and ensure OT register، consumptions، empty vials of narcotics، ensuring adequate stock is maintained

Ensure good functioning and maintenance of OT equipment (oxygen extractor، ventilation، equipment، etc) Collaborate with other departments in the project (responding to accidents، MCP، emergency department requests، intervening in support of other services when needed، etc.)، and participate in any emergency activity or exploratory mission، to support the overall MSF project with his/her expertise and capabilities

Ensure proper fulfillment of administrative procedures and documents (fill in of patients’ files، forms، statistics، data base، etc.)، and elaborate regular reporting about results، proceedings and problematic situations and cases، in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity in the project and support decision-taking

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities Support the MDs، in the ER and IPD in the decision making of the planned referrals، thoroughly assess the patient، review the accuracy of the diagnosis، and consider the possibility of management in Haydan، otherwise discuss the pros and cons of the referral: the procedure/service intended to be provided out of Haydan hospital and its availability in the referral facility، the expected outcome after the referral، and conduct stabilization of the medical condition prior to referral

In collaboration with the surgeon and gynecologist، provide proper counselling of the patients (and their caretaker/families) undergoing surgery and/or critically ill in the ICU/HDU about the anesthesia، progress of the medical situation، the expected outcome/prognosis…etc

Ensure completion and signature of the consent form for the patient’s undergoing surgery، In collaboration with the surgeon and/or gynecologist، perform daily medical follow up round to the critically ill patients in the ICU/HDU in the Med/surgical and OBGYN departments، discuss and change the management plan، if necessary، with special focus on early mobilization، VTE، pain management and antibiotics prescription

Participate in the continuous medical training and capacity building for the MD and the rest of the medical team following a planned schedule and context-related training topics.

Education Valid medical licence essential Doctor Anaesthetist with recognized certificate by the state essential

Experience: Desirable، two years’ experience as an anaesthetist، working with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries is desirable Languages: Mission language essential، local language desirable
